Heaven Hill Brands Acquires Samson & Surrey

Heaven Hill Brands, already the nation’s largest independent distilled spirits company, got even bigger this week. The acquisition of Samson & Surrey brings Tequila Ocho, Widow Jane American Whiskey, Few Spirits, Brenne French Whisky, Bluecoat Gin, and Mezcal Vago into the Heaven Hill family.

“Throughout our 86-year history, our focus has been building a business with a portfolio of great brands sold through a great team,” said Max L. Shapira, president, Heaven Hill Brands. “The Samson & Surrey portfolio strategically enhances our portfolio with emerging brands in strong growth categories. Together with their team, Heaven Hill is poised to leverage the tremendous potential of these exciting brands.”

Samson & Surrey will operate as an independent division of Heaven Hill under the leadership of Robert Furniss-Roe and Juan Rovira, who co-founded the company.

Old Forester Offers Single Barrel Bourbon This Week To Support Roots 101 African-American Museum in Louisville

Old Forester Distilling Company is teaming up with the Roots 101 African-American Museum in Louisville, Kentucky to support Black History Month.

The museum worked with the Kentucky’s Original Black Bourbon Enthusiasts (KOBBE) club to pick a single barrel. Bottles from it will be for sale at the Old Forester Distillery on Louisville’s Whiskey Row, just around the corner from the museum. You can pick up a bottle on Thursday, February 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. Proceeds from the barrel will benefit the museum.

In addition, Old Forester is sponsoring free admission to the museum that day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Roots 101, at 124 North First Street, was recently named one of the 10 Best New Attractions in 2021 by USA Today.

“I have always said legacies matter,” said Lamont Collins, founder of Roots 101. “There’s no doubt that the legacy of Brown-Forman is a beacon in Louisville. The company is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion – and we are honored to partner with Old Forester to introduce more people to Roots 101.”
