About The Bourbon Tutor

Col. Brian G. Miller

Brian G. Miller, The Bourbon Tutor

My name is Brian G. Miller and I’d like to welcome you to The Bourbon Tutor. I’m a travel writer and tour guide who focuses on the Kentucky Bourbon tourism scene and bourbon culture in general. Living in Louisville, Kentucky means I’m right in the heart of bourbon country.

My wife Judy and I are travel advisors and owners of The Travel Tutor. (Perhaps you detect a theme? I’m a former teacher, among many other jobs along the way).

Now I’m also a chauffeur and bourbon guide for Pegasus Distilled and especially enjoy my time hosting guests touring the Kentucky bourbon scene.

While I definitely appreciate and enjoy bourbon, I will be the first to admit I don’t have a particularly sophisticated palate. So, I’ll leave the bourbon tastings and purchase recommendations to others.

Instead, I’ll focus on what I am quite knowledgeable about: the latest happenings in bourbon tourism and culture. I also know a bit about writing, having worked as a journalist and marketing/PR/advertising guy, and earned Master’s Degrees in Journalism (University of Missouri) and Education (Georgetown College). I’ve been writing about a broader range of tourism topics on my other blog on our The Travel Tutor site.

In addition to this site, I write a monthly column called Bourbon Spirit in the Whiskey Network Magazine and I’m also the Editor of the Barrel Report Newsletter each week. You can subscribe for free to each of them here.

And I have a number of travel industry certifications including having two different CTAs behind my name: I earned the Certified Travel Associate designation from The Travel Institute and the Certified Tourism Ambassador title from Louisville Tourism. I’m also a PAX Certified Chauffeur, and an Accredited Cruise Counselor (ACC) from Cruise Lines International Association.

But mostly, I just like being a storyteller. And there are plenty of interesting stories to tell about the people, places, history, and events, in bourbon country. I look forward to sharing them with you.

And what’s the deal with Colonel title? I’m proud to be a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels (and my college mascot at Centre College was also Colonel, so I’ve got that going for me.)

Thanks for joining me. Cheers!
